Audio Day Dream: Blake Lewis
December 12, 2007Blake is one of my favorite American Idol contestants. Well, he's out with his album, and I can say I'm impressed with what he's come up with. It's impossible not to want to start dancing or bob your head to the tunes. Each track is catchy and unique. He doesn't have the best voice, but he's incredibly creative and knows how to use his talents. The title, I think, is quite appropriate. It's a nice mix of techno, RnB, and hip hop. Nice mix of slow and fast songs. I daresay, watch out for Blake Lewis. He's one very talented guy.
Timeline: Michael Crichton
December 10, 2007I seriously don't know why I didn't think of doing this stuff on my blog before. Ha. Fooo.
Well, for now I've decided to go over Michael Crichton's book, Timeline. I say the other reviews on the book are absolutely right. I found the book quite complicated, but I did understand it. Mr. Crichton is truly remarkable to have put such difficult things into simple words.
The plot and science behind everything was well-researched and well thought out. The plot twists will leave you raising an eyebrow, and wanting to read more. Towards the end, the action builds up, and the less time they have, the more frightening it gets. I guarantee, you will have to think a lot for this book, and you will definitely enjoy it. It was difficult not to turn the page and read what was next.
Try picking up a copy. It's a thriller, and certainly your bookshelf can use some of it. Not saying it's boring, but reading takes you places. The more you go, the better you know.
Define: Review.
December 9, 2007Well, I've decided to update my blog's design and content. Because thinking makes me feel smart. Hah. And now, I will review things. Anyway. Reviewing. It's basically my way of unwinding an event, or how I relax my mind after reading something or using something. I'm the type of person who prefers writing instead of talking. While seeing what I want to express, it makes me feel more secure and more confident with what I want to say.
Now, I would like to review what a review is.
From the prefix, re-, it means again. View is to see something. Basically, it is to see something again. A review, in my opinion, is a way to see things again while at the same time saying what you think of it to better it in the future. You describe what you saw or experienced, in order to promote it, or to tell the organizers or creators what you thought in order improve.
Why would you promote a product? To encourage people to buy it. Why would you? To have more people to talk to it about? To earn money? As a favor? To help people find new interests? To help people rediscover things? Whatever the case, it's to recognize something.
Why would you like to improve something you did not create? Why would you care to point out the flaws and point out the good things? What would you get out of it? Certainly nothing much. Perhaps it's the dire, unconscious need for you to make the world a better place. Or you're a perfectionist. Or you just plain want to do it. Whatever the case, you want to make a point.
A review, in essence, is valued much by the creator. Of course, everyone wants to become better, and everyone knows that great people didn't get there overnight. They had to make mistakes. A review, as said earlier, is made to help improve something. A review is actually very positive despite the negative points raised. Critique may sting at first, but nothing that was revolutionary ever passed without critique, right? Notice, every time something new comes up, immediately, critique follows. Take the iPhone. It was eagerly expected, but then people critiqued its' material and quality.
The only negative thing I see here is argument. Plenty of it. Especially if the critique is destructive, or if the creator is not very accepting. In other words, proud. I don't like conflict, but this isn't paradise, so conflict is unavoidable.
Here ends the first post of my string of reviews. Expect more in the near future, ranging from book reviews, movie reviews, clothes, and even the latest site I've visited. Maybe, the new CD at the store today, or the latest article I'd read.
Whatever it may be, I'll be blogging again. Till then, cheerio.
